It Was Edible

I was really trying to come up with some nice things to say about this recipe. Being edible was probably the best I could come up with.

I did use the Oatmeal Bread I made yesterday for the bread portion. Perhaps this would have tasted better with a standard white bread. . .

For the cheese I used an extra sharp white cheddar.

The cheese does melt into the bottom slices of bread. There isn’t really a cheese layer left at all after the hour baking time.

The egg mixture was a little strange. It was a little similar to making French toast to be honest.

So that is the best idea I can give you as to what this was like - French toast grilled cheese.

It wasn’t horrible, but I would not put it on my favorite recipe list. . .
CHEESE SANDWICH CASSEROLE
12 Slices Bread
6 Slices Sharp Cheese
4 Egg Yolks, beaten
2 1/2 Cups Milk
1 Teaspoon Salt
1/8 Teaspoon Pepper
1/4 Teaspoon Dry Mustard
Arrange 6 slices of bread in a greased baking dish. Cover with cheese slices. Add a second layer of bread slices. Combine egg yolks, milk, salt, pepper and dry mustard. Pour over bread slices. Chill 30 minutes. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 1 hour.
