Light Sour Taste

This is the bread I made from my sourdough starter.

It is a very simple bread recipe. And it doesn’t take a huge amount of time for rising.

There seems to be a lot of liquid in this recipe. Maybe that is something standard with sourdough?

I opted to use sugar for the sweetener. I thing honey would be nice as I like the flavor. I think if you used molasses, the loaf would be a little darker.

There is not a huge sour taste to the bread. Maybe this is because my starter was new. I am sure I will be making this bread again, since I have the starter now. I look forward to seeing how the age of the starter will change the final product.

I served this with the Chicken Soup. My daughter loves a bread bowl filled with soup. So I attempted to make bread bowls.

I think the dough was a little too soft to stand up enough for a bowl. I still served her soup in the bowl though. She loved it.
My husband could not get enough of this bread! So I guess the recipe is a winner!
SOURDOUGH BREAD
1 1/2 Cups Warm Water
1 Cup Sourdough Starter
6 Cups All Purpose Flour
2 Teaspoons Sugar, Honey or Molasses
2 Teaspoons Salt
2 Tablespoons Butter
2 Eggs, beaten
Combine water, sourdough starter, 4 cups flour, sugar, and salt. Let stand overnight in a warm place to ferment. The next morning stir down and crust which may have formed. Add 1 cup flour, butter, and eggs. Turn onto a bread board covered with remaining flour. Knead until dough is smooth and elastic. Shape into 2 loaves and place in bread pans. Brush lightly with melted butter. Cover and allow to rise until doubled in bulk. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 45 to 50 minutes.
