I was serving lasagna at a dinner party. I know most people would just stop with the lasagna.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, I now have a reputation for putting out an amazing spread for dinner parties. I didn’t want to just serve lasagna.

We do have quite a few dinner parties. I love throwing them, and people love coming.

This recipe is super simple, and doesn’t take a whole lot of effort.

I have never steamed beans like this before, so I was anxious to see the end result.

Sautéing the garlic in the oil gives the oil the lovely garlic flavor.

Covering the beans with lettuce creates a vessel for steaming the beans. It locks in the moisture, so it all recirculates through the beans.

Adding the parsley and parmesan gives the beans a little extra flavor. And they look quite appealing!

This is a great side dish! It went beautifully with the lasagna!
GREEN BEANS ITALIAN STYLE

1/3 Cup Olive Oil
1 Clove Garlic, Slivered
4 Lettuce Leaves
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/3 Cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
1/4 Cup Chopped Parsley
Prepare green beans. Heat oil in a large skillet. Add garlic. Spread beans evenly over top. Cover with washed lettuce leaves. Place a tight lid on the pan and steam over a low flame for 15 minutes. Season with salt. Sprinkle with parmesan and parsley, toss to coat.
