Savory Meat Balls

My daughter loves it when we go to Ikea because she knows she will be able to get Swedish meatballs in their cafe. She absolutely loves them.

For some reason I don’t make them at home all that often. You would think knowing that she loves them so, I would make them more often. I guess I will have to change that. . .

The recipe is quite easy. The ingredients mash together very well. The balls do not fall apart when you are browning them. This is an absolute plus!

The flavor is good as well. They do taste very similar to the ones we get at Ikea.

The gravy is also very easy to make. I wish there was more of it though. That is my only issue with this recipe. The gravy soaked into the meatballs while baking, so there was no extra to serve with.

This would be easily remedied by doubling the gravy ingredients.

The combination of hamburger and veal give a lovely flavor as well.

So, while these meat balls were fabulous, I would work on the gravy a bit.
SWEDISH MEAT BALLS 4
1 Cup Milk
2 Cups Bread Crumbs
1 1/2 Pounds Hamburger
1/2 Pound Ground Veal
2 Eggs, Beaten
1/4 Cup Finely Chopped Onion
2 Teaspoons Salt
1/8 Teaspoon Allspice
1/16 Teaspoon Ground Cloves
1/2 Teaspoon Monosodium Glutamate
3 Tablespoons Fat
1 1/2 Tablespoons Flour
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1 1/2 Cups Water
Combine hamburger, veal, eggs, onion, 2 teaspoons salt, allspice, cloves and monosodium glutamate. Form into 1 inch balls and place in skillet with fat. Brown on all sides and then place in a casserole. Put flour and 1/2 teaspoon salt in skillet. Add water, scrap up bits and cook until thick, stirring constantly. Pour over meat balls, cover and bake in a 350 degree oven for 1 hour.
