Imbottita means stuffed in Italian. And this lasagna is certainly stuffed full of goodness.

It starts with the Rich Meat Sauce. This is a slow cooking sauce that is loaded with meat.

The lasagna also has sausage. So a total of four meats!

The recipe called for sliced sausage. I purchased bulk Italian sausage, so had chunks instead of slices.

The lasagna also has three different cheeses.

The ricotta gives the middle layer a lovely and rich creaminess.

The mozzarella slices only partially melt. So you get big chunks of mozzarella every few bites.

The parmesan gives the top noodle layer a bit of a cheesy crunch.
This lasagna is very rich. It takes a long time, especially is you make the meat sauce.

But I have to say it is absolutely worth it! Six people for dinner and there was only a small portion left at the end of the night!

LASAGNA IMBOTTITA
1 Pound Lasagne
Rich Meat Sauce
1 1/2 Pounds Italian Sausage
1 Pound Ricotta Cheese
1/4 Cup Chopped Parsley
1 Pound Mozzarella Cheese, Sliced
Grated Parmesan
Sauté sausage until nicely browned, slice into 1/4 inch pieces. Cook lasagna in boiling, salted water until just tender. Drain thoroughly. Butter a large baking dish and line the bottom with noodles, overlapping them slightly. Add a layer of meat sauce, a layer of sausage slices, then sprinkle with parsley. Add another layer of noodles, then a layer of ricotta and a layer of mozzarella. Add some sauce and a little parsley. Continue these layers until all ingredients are used. Use noodles for the final layer. Sprinkle with parmesan. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 25 minutes.
